Window Treatments - Roman Shades-How to Install in 5 Easy Steps

Installing your own window treatments - Roman Shades can be a bit confusing, so if you are not very good at doing things like this yourself, than I would advise hiring a pro. If you are good at doing such things, this article is meant to be a guide for the installation.

Please note that many shades come with their own instructions, please defer to those instructions, this is just meant to give you a general idea.

1. First, the tools which you will need. You will need to obtain a mounting hardware kit. This may come with your shades. This will usually including several mounting brackets and screws. The number of brackets and screws that you will need depends on the size of the shades to be hung. You will also need to provide some other tools including, a screwdriver, pencil, tape measure, scissors, drill and step stool.

2. Next you need to choose whether you wish to install your Roman Shades on the inside or the outside of the window frame. Position each bracket 2-4" from the ends of the head rail. If your shades require more than two brackets, the other ones should be spaced evenly inside of these two.

3. Hold the shade level above the window opening, where you wish the shades to be placed. Make a pencil mark on the wall where each bracket needs to go. Remove the brackets from the head rail and screw them into the wall at each marked point.

4. Snap the head rail into place ensuring that each bracket is secured.

5. If your shade has a valence attachment, now is the time to place it as it should go. Test the cords to your Roman Shades, make sure nothing is caught in them and that they raise and lower easily and smoothly.

As you can see, it is not as difficult as you may have though to install Roman Shades. I would only advise you to get professional help if you are not comfortable with tools. There are also some people who are not comfortable putting holes in their walls- if this is you than you should seek a professional as well.

Have fun installing these, do it with a friend or on your own. Be proud of the work you have accomplished and make sure to spend some time in your newly elegantly redecorated room and be sure to enjoy!
